A couple of years ago I came across a poem somewhere on the interwebs. I cannot remember where or what it was called or who it was by. I think it was by a woman, and wherever it was posted, maybe it was mentioned that it was from some poetry journal, some years ago? The poem was based on a true story, I think? (or maybe a newspaper article of a story?)--it was about children somewhere rural, going somewhere, or coming home, and a little boy getting somehow trapped/stuck on the train tracks, and his sister tried to help him, and a train was coming, but when she couldn't help him get free, she hugged him and stayed with him, and they both died.

Does anyone know this poem, or where I can find it?

Fionn: Mama, you know what I dreamed about last night? I dreamed about us. You and me and dada. We played and danced and banged on things and threw away windows and thew away the Carnival, and everything else.

p.s. Fionn was a dragon for Carnival. I was a hippie.

Apparently "Married...With Children" was remade for Russian television...this is very unheimlich. Make sure you watch the credits, which starts at 1.23

Mama, I want to tell you something funny about us. I am Boing Fionn, and you are Boing mama, and upstairs is Boing dada. No, not like the Boing 747, Boing is what I call stripes, like on a zebra. Mama, you are a zebra.

Biod is a show I will watch when I am older.

Do you know why I will watch it when I am older?

Because there are people fighting in it.

I will watch it when I am six.

No, I will watch it when I am sixteen.

Some people are women and some people are men on the show

And there is an apple that talks.

The apple talks at the end of the show.

It's a very long show.

In the morning I watch it and it goes until the end of the day

The people are named Biod and they are beasts and they fight

Because the beasts are dragons.

And it's a secret.

I think a boy comes to Biod.

And a girl comes to Biod.

I think a boy and a girl, a boy and a girl, a boy and a girl, a boy and a girl, a boy and a girl.

So I am finally watching Battlestar Galactica for the first time. And, granted, I am only at the beginning of Season 2, but so far I have to say--all of my friends have told me how the show is this clear critique of GWB and Bush-era politics. And...I sort of don't see it? I mean, obviously I see it here and there--but it's not a consistent show arc, more like remixed allusions/tropes of the War on Terror Hot Topics inserted into the plotlines. I think Buffy season 7 was a much stronger, and more developed critique of Bush and the Iraq War.

But maybe it gets more consistent/explicit later on in the show?

Some of my recent favorites from the [livejournal.com profile] theophile-maintained Fionn's twitter account:

Why am I all wrapped up? I think it must be because I am a present!

Maybe the outside is a kind of a refrigerator.

I am not happy on the inside. I am happy on the outside. I am happy on the top of a bus. Is that bad?

I do not know if you are talking about the white one or the red one. What I mean is: is it a tomato or a potato?

I will take you and I will put you into some darkness and I will leave you there forever.

But then I will come, too, and we will break it off. We will break off a piece of the darkness so that no dragons can come in with us.

I think sharks have sharp teeth because "sharp" almost sounds like "shark."

Now I am going to think about all the things that have sharp teeth. Like dragons, and monsters, and giants. And also some more monsters.

Now I am going to talk about all of the things that does have legs, and all of the things that doesn't have legs.

Like suns. Suns don't have legs, because they are suns.

Some other bees can say "buzz buzz." That is not the kind of bee I am.

But I don't have big ears up here like this, so I will just have to be a secret bear.

I just want you to do what I want. That is the only thing I want.

I watched "Date Night," which I had had high hopes for, as I really like both Steve Carrell and Tina Fey. But it was kind of meh. I felt like in structure and ethos it was trying to channel "After Hours" (which is one of my favorite films EVER), but it was, like, a very diluted, cleaned-up, non-atmospheric version of it. The totally brilliant thing about "After Hours" is that through strategic omissions of everything except totally random, evocative elements in all the weird characters' backstories, or any real explanations for what the fuck is going on with them, that movie really creates this sense of a totally different world with its own implied, but never explained rules, that poor Griffin Dunne stumbles into, and cannot get out of. "Date Night" tries for that, I feel, especially with characters like Whippet "Tripplehorn" but totally misses the vibe.

On the other hand, loved all the scenes with Mark Wahlberg and "sex robots!"

My sister is visiting with her three kids. Fionn is having a blast with his cousins. We have been taking long walks and feeding the ducks in the park.

We also saw a super-cool duck (above), but I do know it is a duck. I still really want to know what the first bird is.
