making friends

Fionn and I had our first playdate here with a very cool family. A woman I met through Couchsurfing, her 8-year old daughter, and her twins, who are absolute elvish imps...or possibly impish elves.













Also Fionn ran out into the garden yesterday, and there was a gaggle of kids next door (birthday party, apparently), and the gardens are adjacent to each other, but there is a thick wall of trees rising above a little fence...so the kids on the other side, naturally intrigued by Fionn's mighty yelps, decided to investigate...I heard them giggling, and then this boy, looking like a storybook illustration, peered curiously into our yard. It cracked me up, so I took a photo.

Dutch lessons

I learned that kabouter means "gnome" in Dutch. Also my favorite Dutch word thus far is paraplu--umbrella!
