so, question for everyone, but especially people who know me.

should i cut my hair? it's that time of year. i am toying with the idea again.

what i have in mind is a sort of 50s/French hairdo (keep in mind, my hair is curly), shaped around my head (i guess it would have to be in major layers) with really short razored bangs that i could put product in to make them not frizz all over the place ([livejournal.com profile] totalvirility i am looking at your orange tub of pomade). think, like, a girl from "Breathless" (the French version with Belmondo, not the US remake with Richard Gere, obviously).

Note: [livejournal.com profile] universaldonor, i know all about your bias, so unless you have a specific opinion that constructively pertains to my individual head of hair, i don't want to hear any of that general blanket "girls should have short hair" arguments.

I am the absoloute worst at conceptualizing haircuts. I think one's mind needs a capacity for geometry that mine definitely lacks. Any major hair change makes me nervous, but I am often delightfully surprised at the results.

Sorry for the non-answer, but I at least mulled it over! ;)

oooh, i totally remembered her hair looking differently. like, way differently. perhaps i confused an entirely different french person with jean whatever her name was from "breathless" (i also have not seen that movie in years and years). i was thinking of something much longer and layered. like, hair staying close to the head, sort of curling our a little, like a tight shapely cap down to the chin, and then short thin-nish bangs. i dunno where the hell i got the "breathless" referent from, but thanks for providing the pic. because otherwise i might have gone to the hairdresses, said "breathless" and then there would have been an unmitigated disaster and lots of tears.

i had short hair several times: when i was a child, which does not count, b/c was not really my decision plus i looked different, in high school when i was going through my peculiar obsession with Demi Moore phase and cut my hair to look like hers in "Ghost" freshman year of oberlin when, following a traumatic break-up with my high school boyfriend i got a crew-cut and, like, the vidal sassoon academy in london did something to my hair where it was neither short nor long, nor light nor dark, but like this crucible/amalgam of all things and contradictions, like The Cradle of Life locale in the new Lara Croft flick. so i dunno. i'll prolly chicken out, though. i only cut my hair once out of every five times that i seriously consider it. UD just likes 12 year old boys and should just cop to it.

UD's crack usage notwithstanding, the word "should" is so totally retarded in the above comment that i need to point it out again.

No no... they really should. They should also wear high heels and short skirts and giggle vapidly a lot. And they should like all work as secretaries or maybe veteranarians if they're really ambitious, and get together once a week to sip cosmopolitans and paint their toenails and giggle vapidly.

Sheesh, dude. Ever heard of irony?

oh thank god. wasn't sure for a minute there--sarcasm can be hard to detect. & there were always the bozos that made those comments on UD's blog before, totally devoid of jest or pun.

.... although I actually do happen to love [livejournal.com profile] anthrochica's beautiful long hair and I think it would be a shame if it were gone. I would miss it.

I think short hair looks best either on very pixie-ish girls or bull dykes. Anthrochica is tall and strong-looking, and I think the long hair adds to her femininity while at the same time giving her a kind of wild look. Plus, there's nothing quite like big eyes, a wide-boned Russian face and a mess of curly dark hair. No wonder the boys are so fond of her! Yay for antrochica, she's hot!

This is a stream of this morning's Democracy Now! Skip ahead to 10:42 and listen very carefully through the whole song. Maybe you, like I, will have a sinking feeling where you realize who is singing before it is over. If not, Amy Goodman will tell you. Then we all die.

letterman played video of this for maybe a week or two back when it first came out. yes, there's video. yes, he performed it in public. yes, he's wacked.

UD, i can't do anything on my computer. whenever i download ANYTHING and then try to view it or play it it gives me an error message and says that original application that created that file could not be found. why do you think that is? every time it does that, i want to cry more and more because i feel like either i belong on the short bus, or my laptop does.

You have an mp3 player on your Mac? Here's the mp3 version of the program:

http://stream.paranode.com/democracynow/dn2003-0909-1.mp3

or, you can go to pacifica.org. once there, copy the link to whatever show is posted to your mp3 player. then edit the date.

why is late summer the time for a haircut? late spring is the time for cutting your hair shorter, in preparation for summer. winter's coming. time to grow some hair for those cold winds.

anyway, hair schmair. just so long as you keep your wry smile.

really?? my smile is wry???

(don't worry, i think about cutting it in the spring as well. although i am more inclined to have long hair in the summer to go with my flowy skirts. maybe i am a hippie at heart. but hair + skirts = i like, unless i am in the jungles of the Amazon. man, this is turning out to be the most vapid thread ever. anyway, my hair deliberations are trivial, unlike [livejournal.com profile] remsaverem who, last i heard, was contemplating a devil-lock.

well, in that picture it looks so to me. sort of off to the left. plus, you have that mixture of world weary with twinkle in your eyes. i'm sure that any haircut will go with it.

From: [identity profile] remsaverem.livejournal.com
the reason you are getting those kind of errors is probably because the link UD posted was in real player format, which doesn't come standard on macs. actually, i'm not sure there even is a real media player for macs, but there are ways around this.

maybe you should do what cyndi lauper did, like, 20 years ago and shave one side off, leaving the other side long. that way, you can face people from whichever side you happen to be feeling most like that day. yellow/orange dye and checkerboard pattern shaved into the short side are optional, of course.
