weird dream i had last night
Aug. 13th, 2003 02:53 pmi am riding the New York Subway (that looks a lot like the Moscow subway) with Michael Douglas and two of my friends. For some reason Michael Douglas and I have to split off from my friends so we agree to meet at a different station, seven stops West of where we originally were. We meet on the platform, which is all in blue hues. I say that the coloring of the platform is exactly like the color in Petrov-Vodkin's paintings, with a little bit of allusion to Chagall. We have to get back to my house, but first I want food. At this point Michael Douglas has transmongrified into someone else entirely, who is my friend in the dream, but I don't know him in real life. We are walking through Washington Square Park; it's dark. I see a hotdog stand, but it's closing down. We walk into some fast food/deli place where there is only little bits of food left. I see old muffins and swiss Danishes, then at the other end of the place there is a salad bar. I want a Caesar Salad, but not all of the ingridients are there. There is a bin of greens with what I think are chicken bits, but upon closer inspection, turn out to be almond slivers. I am hungry, but can't choose what I want to eat because all the choices are not quite what I want.

Date: 2003-08-13 04:54 pm (UTC)i was also going to say that it clearly means you are so in love with her, it almost borders on obsession. but now that just seems so redundant and unoriginal, so i won't. and besides, i don't actually know either of you, so who am i to say that it isn't a shared dream between the two of you, and your (as of yet) unrequited love for me.
i'm just glad, for your sake, that there weren't any pigeons or pigeon bits.

Re: off the cuff
Date: 2003-08-14 12:47 pm (UTC)i would argue that the locale is generally THE most important consistent element of a dream. for years all my nightmares took place in the same (non-real) city--in one dream where i was running through a high-rise asylum, for instance, i looked out a window and spied in the distance an amphitheatre that had been the location of a previous nightmare. when i worked through a couple pertinent real-life issues, i stopped visiting that city in my sleep.
so, i would say that the dream probably addresses something other than Russia, but you realize that the Russia/America split informs a lot of your decisions, or is the field upon which they are played, if you will. i think.

But really, isn't it better when you get mysterious interpreations of your dreams from mysterious people.
Unfortunately, Japhy is not mysterious. But he does have power again.
