ok, you know that old philosophical problem, if the world has gone insane, and you are sane, what does that mean?

i think Bush and Blair being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for the War in Iraq is epistemological proof that the world has, in fact, gone insane.

Well, duh, of course they were going to be nominated.

The world's only gone insane if they actually get it.

exactly. somebody can nominate a ham sandwich if they want to. remember what the nobel committee said when awarding last year's Prize to jimmy carter -- they went out of their way to point out how he wasn't shrub.

Reminds me of the time the Queen Mum knighted a kidney pie. She was getting a little batty at the end, wasn't she?

Just a tangential thought: There's a good number of American Christians out there who fear that the U.N. might become "the" world government prophesied in Revelation.

The World so frowns on the U.S. right now.

you know, if i believed in the Revelations, I would be afraid of that too? Actually, I am afraid of that even though I don't believe in the Revelations, I am afraid of that because THEY all believe in the Revelations, and all seem too eager to assume their parts.

yes, the world is pissed at the US and the US is pissed at its gov't.

which a couple of months ago would have given me strong hope of seeing Bush ousted by Dean or whoever else in '04.

however, my post about electronic voting machines above addresses that.

god, i'm depressed.

Really? The U.S. is pissed at its government? I think you're right - I think that people always have numerous and justified gripes against the government in its role in implementing the will of the population. Which is interesting because it brings up the difference between government and nation which we gloss over everyday. Even though people have new and more open gripes about the government nowadays than they may have had in the past ten years, it seems that as far as the mainstream goes, society and individuals both seem very supportive of the more abstract "America," touted by W in the face of big government.
