can i just say that WB 11 had a super-meta poll yesterday, asking the viewers to log on and vote whether they were more scared about SARS or terrorism.

of course, the subtext that is writhing under the surface, trying to shake off the text like poorly tailored, barely concealing clothes, is: "which one have we managed to terrify you about more with our sensationalist hype?"

tonight was a nice evening. [livejournal.com profile] universaldonor came over. we smoked cigarettes and drank some chocolate milk. jessie is going to make a ring for me out of this piece of smalta (mosaic glass) that i found on the beach in Yalta, when I was 5 and went to Crimea for the summer with my parents; when I went to Moscow last summer, I found it in one of my drawers with a bunch of pretty tchotchkes from when I was little. It's lilac/purple and is simultaneously tranlucent like seaglass and transparent like a jellyfish. i have a really specific design in mind. It's going to be beautiful.

tomorrow i am going to go and try to sell clothes to Beacon's closet. Spring cleaning time, the prospect of moving into the other room, and the planned trip to the new Park Slope wannabe Beacon's closet are all motivating me. Sort of.

Also I am really excited because found a store near Union Square that sells Holgas 120 SF. I am totally getting one. Maybe I'll even get two. They are only about $20 each. I can tape one up and just use it for the square negatives, and get the whole light leaks effects with the other one. Chiaroscuro + double exposure. Now I feel this flash of sadness that the darkroom in our apartment is serving duty as a closet. But whatever, I have not developed pictures myself for years and years, since high school. And we really, really need that closet. I am just excited about playing around with the camera. I also got a "recipe" for polaroid transfers that supposedly can be done with regular 600 film, if it's soaked in hot water (since I don't have the peel-apart film, at least not for the old camears that I do have, I don't think they manufacture it anymore, at least not in the US), so I'm gonna try that out too this weekend.

There was a CNN poll in the first week of the war. Something like:

"Which is the greatest threat to US soldiers? A.) Weapons of mass destruction. B.) Suicide bombers. C.) Friendly fire."

I suppose it never occurred to the brains at CNN that they should have included a, "D.) Iraqi soldiers."
