yes, exploit the tragedy of our city that you apparently find expendable, since not a penny of the federal funds promised to NYC after 9/11 has reached New York, and since you deemed it appropriate to deploy F-16s to patrol over Disneyland, and not New York, why don't you, Mr. Bush.

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/04/22/politics/22BUSH.html

President Bush's advisers have drafted a re-election strategy built around staging the latest nominating convention in the party's history, allowing Mr. Bush to begin his formal campaign near the third anniversary of Sept. 11 and to enhance his fund-raising advantage, according to Republicans close to the White House.

In addition, Mr. Bush's advisers say they are prepared to spend as much as $200 million — twice the amount of his first campaign — to finance television advertising and other campaign expenses through the primary season that leads up to the Republican convention in September. That would be a record amount of money by a presidential candidate, and would be especially notable because Mr. Bush faces no serious opposition for his party's nomination.

The president is planning a sprint of a campaign that would start, at least officially, with his acceptance speech at the Republican convention, which is now set for Sept. 2.

The convention, to be held in New York City, will be the latest since the Republican Party was founded in 1856, and Mr. Bush's advisers said they chose the date so the event would flow into the commemorations marking the third anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks.

get that bag out again

yes, the same repub congress that voted to "support the troops", voted mere hours later to cut $20 billion from veterans' health care.

Would you really want F-16s flying over New York?

well...that's hard to answer. in short--no. no because i would not want there to be a need for them to be flying there, no because i think it's entirely possible that the whole code orange terror broohaha is cooked up by the gov't/media conglomerate to terrify people into stupidity. but within the context of THEIR own paradigm--which is that when the war with Iraq started, they elevated the terror alert and talked about how they expected possible attacks, they chose to deploy fighter jets to fly over DC and fucking Disneyland but not over NYC, even though even according to them it's the #1 terror target. so regardless of whether i would want them there or not, i think it's pretty obvious that the current gov't finds New York expendable.

Or they found the publicity so useful from the last attack that they can't quite bring themselves to fully advert potential publicity from another one.

According to the New York Times as filtered through my ex-boyfriend, if the presidential election were held TODAY, Bush would win by a landslide not only in the country but in New York State. What?!!?!!?!?!?!?!?
