Alissa and I took a walk to a hippie farm right outside town, just before the Belgian border. The smoky kitchen, filled with ashtrays and orange peels, with a sooty rain-fogged window, a chalkboard filled with phone numbers, a black cat, pillows with gold embroidery, half-carved wooden spoons--reminded me of college, made me nostalgic for crooked houses and cheap furniture and tie-dye wall tapestries and incense on East College Street and East Lorain street, and I mean even though this is a house with windchimes and chickens in the middle of Holland, it's still in the same cosmic zipcode, you know?

This reminds me of the kind of places I grew up in, most of all Cwnyllo.
(pronouced "coon uck lo." weird welsh hehe)
Cwnyllo was a falling down old farm house, with over grown secret walled gardens, no heating, no electricity, just log fires and candles. It was freezing cold and hard to live in but my sister and I loved it :)
I really like these photos, it looks like a nice place xx

How funny! I've been reading your blog for quite a while now and never knew you went to (and/or spent time at) Oberlin.

Great photos, as usual.

I did, class of 1999. Did East Lorain street give it away? Did you go there too?

and thanks!

C/o 1997, so we overlapped a bit. :)

And yeah, E. Lorain and College St, I wonder if there's another town with that pair of names?

funny! where did you live off-campus? And no, although I am sure there are plenty of College Streets, and there are likely East Lorain streets all over Lorain County, I am guessing Oberlin is the one place where they coexist.

I was in OSCA all four years... but I spent some time abroad. I lived in Harkness and Tank and dined in Asia House my last year.

Interesting, I was in Asia house my first year and started dining there when they reopened. Sounds like your last year was my second year.

I love the idea that you can walk to a hippie farm. I don't think I'll last longer than my initial contract here... I need to be in a place that has autumn and farmhouses that look like that and apples and wool. The second photo looks like it's from the 60s.
