The ending in Somalia--there was no year--are we to understand that this was the original blackout in 1991, or was it another one happening now? Is the goatherder boy somehow "immune" or, if this is the 1991 one, was it happening within a specific radius (that the crows flew into), and he was outside it because he was on a hill above his village?

I'm pretty sure that was Somalia 1991 and the implication was the signal was contained. I didn't tape it, but it looked like the last shot was of something huge - like a tower or an antenna - rising above the village.

I'm really glad they've already introduced such specifics. It's another sign that if there's an early cancellation, they can wrap up the story in an episode.

I assumed it was 1991 too -- a recollection of the last time the crows died.

But, but why didn't lots of other people notice dead crows everywhere after the blackout?

Also I assume you saw my tweet about Kafka.

"A murder of crows" is a nice term, and I was glad to be reminded of it.
