Some years ago, shortly after my grandfather's death, I had a dream that in his afterlife he was running a junkshop in Berlin, selling all kinds of old, second-hand things. The hue, the mood, the color of the dream was like this.

berlin window girl
a blues singer from New Orleans I met in Berlin. She did a stunning version of "Black Mountain Blues" which is my new favorite blues song, especially the line: "The babies cry for liquor, and all the birds sing bass."

I'm also kinda partial to the "gonna cut 'em if he stand there, gonna shoot 'em if he run" line.

her name is Meschiya, she plays under the name "Magnolia Beacon" if I understood correctly. She is actually going to NYC tomorrow and was saying that she has six gigs there lined up, if you want to go.

Sorry I didn't reply to your comment about putting me on lists for parties--that would have been awesome, but I had already left for Berlin on Friday. Next time...

Hooray, it's Meschiya! I love her. What a voice!
So glad you got to meet her, and hear her sing.
I love these photos.
Man, I need to interview you sometime soon!

ha, it totally figures you know her! I should have thought to ask if she knows you. I bet she totally knows Miss Seze, too. Being in different cities makes me disoriented in terms of what people fit with what scene. But yes, I liked her a lot. I went to see her sing, and we both stayed at a mutual friend's house.
