I have no idea if this would be of any use to anyone (Nika?), but just today Air Berlin is having a massive sale on flights between US and Germany. If you pick sale dates, you can get a round-trip ticket from NYC to Berlin for $501, taxes and everything included, $414 for children under 12, this is for this summer, during high travel season. I think it's even cheaper if you fly to Dusseldorf instead of Berlin.

I just looked--in Sept. you could get a round-trip for 378 EU from Tegel to JFK and back. But you'd have to book it today--I think it's their 30 year anniversary special sale, and not any kind of long-standing promotion.
