This morning Fionn requested "baby coffee."

The request was denied.

it was so cute! he pointed at my cup and said "mama coffee." I said "yes, that's mama's coffee." Then he got this earnest look he gets when he is about to ask for something he is not allowed to have/do, tilted his head and said "baby coffee." I said no, then he repeated, with increasing tenderness "baaaaaby coffee. baby coffee?" then pouted then gave up.

I wish to wrap your child in a tortilla, sprinkle him with lime and salt, and eat him. Mmmmmm adorable baby.

haha. as a punjabi, i've witnessed all my younger cousins (and i did this too back in the day, i guess) ask for tea & their parents compromise by putting tonnes of milk in it.

I've given him sips of herbal teas, with lots of milk. He seemed to like that, although I don't know how much he liked the taste and how much he liked having an "adult" drink. But he gets very excited about the whole process of me making coffee every morning, the kettle whistling, me pouring water in the French press, and he is intensely curious about coffee, but usually points to it and says "very hot" rather than asking for some for himself. But I guess now I will have to think of something that could pass as "baby coffee"!

Chocolate milk? Hot chocolate? ;-)

Hot chocolate is probably closer. You could also do some kind of herbal tea and make it with a French press, which I've heard is interesting.

[livejournal.com profile] redheadedmuse's older daughter leaves the root off of root beer, which I've always found delightfully endearing.

from what I remember of Rio's toddlerhood, she and Fionn share a love for real beer bottles emptied by adults.

I try to not give him sugar on a daily basis, and it would be fun if I had something that he could drink every morning with me as "baby coffee"--he loves chocolate milk, though! :)

That's the first thing I thought when I read this, other than, "OMG CUTE." "What would baby coffee consist of?"

suggestions on FB included barley drinks, chicory, etc.

are you on FB by the way? For some reason I thought I had you friended, but yesterday as I was procrastinating by sending all of the anthropologists on my friends list "anthropology gifts" I realized that was not the case.
