The two small islands East of Venice proper in the lagoon.

Murano is famous for its glass (although I suspect much of the glass tchotchkes for sale in the little shops there are Made in China these days...)

This is what Steve Martin would call "the cruel bed."

Your pictures are rapidly making the European Postdoc my post-field dream...

I think the European Postdoc is pretty dreamy for non-aesthetic reasons, too. Like health care!

it's too bad you guys weren't there, it would have been a blast to roam around the islands together. Fortunately you are close enough to be able to go back whenever you want, easily!

No thanks needed! We should thank you for sharing these. If you sold glasses that filtered the world so that I could see it like it looks in your photos, I'd wear them all the time!

Gorgeous. What kind of camera do you use?

Thank you! I use a Nikon D80, but I think the lens makes a lot more of a difference than the body. For all of them except the colored houses and the last one I used a 50mm F1.8 lens, which is probably the best and the sharpest prime lens you can get on the cheap, and for the other two the kit lens that came with the camera (18-55mm).
