Saw Synecdoche, New York at Landmark Sunshine last night, which really is very interesting to think about, but the process of watching felt like existential rape.

So maybe it's because I can be terribly linear, but did anyone else think that everything after PSH's seizure is, essentially, an "Occurrence on the Owl Creek Bridge" kind of deal?

I think I've maxed out on my relentlessly downbeat art with Jimmy Corrigan, so while it sounds like a fascinating exercise I don't think I can take the punishing existentialism.

I don't know that reference (at the risk of sounding stupid) but I loved the movie. Maybe I am terribly existential but to me most of the movie was exactly how I think.

It did seem like it could be Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge (or Jacob's Ladder, or: Life on Mars), just because he's in the commercials and does zone in and out of them. Plus the guy following him doesn't age, although everyone else does. But in a way, I guess, part of the point is that it doesn't matter: it's all truth or all illusion, and trying to keep the difference apart, as he does at the beginning, won't work. But hints which might be red-herrings: he thinks Pinter has died, but in fact he's won the Nobel Prize. So when he wins the MacArthur, maybe he really dies? Especially since all of that is in the future -- that is the change from real news to future world occurs when he gets the letter from the MacArthur people.

When will you be in Boston again? And for how long?
