Aug. 8th, 2008 06:07 pmAfter a completely insane 36 hours prior to our departure and an exhausting series of flights (with one extra layover! not advertised on the itinerary! surprise!) we are in Leiden at the home of Niels, the friend I made while couchsurfing back in the spring, and we are about to head south.
I just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone that helped us so much in the last few weeks--redheadedmuse and legitimatelove and thoroughbass and everyone--and a special thanks goes out to beginnersmind, who magically appeared on wednesday with her husband, and for serious, if they hadn't--I am absolutely certain that there is no way we would have made our plane.
more soon!

i was partially kidding, because yesterday we went for a day trip into the "last" village before the real taiga starts and it was a ridiculously nightmarish mosquito-ridden half-deserted place, that even locals think is insane to go to. i'm on this increasingly absurd "archeographic" or "archeobibliographic" expedition - archeographic actually means searching for rare books. so i'm with this guy who's looking for these tibetan ritual texts that were usually buried in such places during the soviet times.
