Today I was bidding goodbye to this side of the Atlantic by splashing in its roaring waves, just this side of icy, despite the shimmering heat radiating from the sun pouring down and becoming something else, gentle and ethereal, in the foam, like the soul of The Little Mermaid.

Fionn, my beloved water baby, was perturbed by the violence and the roaring of Poseidon's foaming steeds. He cried several times down by the water, then grew more calm and curious, but then--my bad--I sat down with him in the sand, figuring that it was low tide, and we could let the small messenger waves that reached the shore wash over us. Then a wave that showed no sign of decelerating or diminishing overwhelmed and submerged us. At that point Fionn was done getting in touch with his aquatic roots.

He seemed to like the taste of seawater, though. Perhaps he will be like me, so in love with the sea that he won't wash his hair for days after swimming in the salty waves, and will love finding sand in his bedsheets for months after summer is over.

babies at the beach are the cutest, aren't they? :)

the t-shirt was procured at a Goodwill store for 99 cents the day before yesterday. I like putting him in tie-dye, so I am afraid in the photographic narrative of his childhood he is going to look like a very hippie baby.

I'm actually considering picking up some dye and a few basic white shirts ... love the tie-dye effect.

tie-dyeing is the best. I haven't done it since college. I was considering getting one of the kits from here
http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/man/guides/tiedye/beginners.html

but this summer has been just too busy. And there are always tie-dye baby clothes at Salvation Army and Goodwill stores, so I just grab them there.

Yeah, I'm sure. I really do have to be productive. I'm behind on so many things. I have to mow my neighbors lawn, paint the fence, and work on the project. Plus, my Dad hasn't really gotten to spend a lot of time with the baby in a while, so he wants to take her for the day, which would leave me free to get some work done. Wish I could, though. My Dad and Anna are going away soon, so I have to take advantage of the babysitters while I have them!

all right, I will take plenty of pictures to show you. What are you guys up to tomorrow? We are at loose ends starting at about 3 pm...then the following days really busy probably until next weekend.

I allready asked my step-mother to watch the kid so that I can get some work done. All I have now is about 10 pages of unorganized notes. I need three complete essays done ASAP! I'm starting to realize how deep in trouble I am!

gorgeous photos as always. my favorites are the first one and the one of Fionn holding hands with the male (his father?).

i felt the same way as you about the saltwater in my hair and the beach... absolutely love it, although i havent' been to the beach even once yet this year.

that's his grandpa...don't you live close to the beach?

i live close enough... we could drive there in a little over an hour probably. but usually we're too busy running around doing other things. i'll be spending a week in st. augustine later this summer though, so that should give me a little time to enjoy the sun and sand and saltwater.

do you ever go to walden pond?

did you get my email the other day, by the way?

what are you doing tomorrow afternoon?

No, never.

Yes, I did, wanted to write a heartfelt response...have had no time to do so. For now let's just say...you're awesome, thank you for saying that, and <3.

Nothing. A friend was supposed to come in from out of town but it turns out he isn't, so I'm free...

so cute!! I am not much of an ocean person but these make me really want to go...

anyway I'm back from SF, in Wellesley for probably a week or so and would love to see you...I know things are crazy but if you have any free afternoons/evenings let me know, I'm as usual pretty much unscheduled...and am also totally more than willing to help with packing, or cleaning, entertaining Fionn while you pack, or whatever...
