Niels, who looks like a Soviet countercultural youth circa my early teens

more to come...did I mention I went to an abandoned (but squatted by artists) factory? The artists weren't there, but some of their creations were...but now to sleep...

So, where did you end up staying in A-dam?

I didn't. I ended up staying in Leiden, with this girl I found via couchsurfer.com, and it was totally awesome.

sorry; I got the details wrong. John was from Leyden, but the city he turned into a communalist, polygamous theocracy was Münster, in Germany. short link. but at least the city has a marvelous Son to Favor.

Oh, wow, that is the coolest bookstore ever! Hubby and I have talked about visiting Amsterdam one day. We want to go because it's beautiful. I think we are the only people EVER to want to go who have never done any illegal substances and are not interested in ever doing so :)

the bookstore is actually in the South of Holland, but Amsterdam has plenty of its own beauties.

leiden was absolutely lovely. shimmering canals and rusty boats and large windows opening up into apartments in a way that made the apartments look like stages.

What a nice surprise, finding these pictures. They made my day! For 28 yrs I lived in the Netherlands, a large chunk of those in Leiden.
Aside from your pics being gorgeous in and of themselves, they almost made me tear up in recognition. So familiar and so unexpected. Thank you.

(btw - the Night Canal is along one of the streets I lived at, and the ubertree is taken in front of the cafe/restaurant where our wedding reception was.)

(ETA-should've spell checked before, not after)

how cool! I am glad you like them and recognize the places dear to you. I absolutely loved Leiden, I thought it was so lovely. Amsterdam was beautiful too, but darker, and I only had half a day there--Leiden was just like walking into a fairy tale.

i love composition on your B&W photography
but your colors just do something absolutely unexplainable to me...
has our favorite magical realism ever been established as a genre in photography? because your images surely belong there.

p.s. Sunday--CAN'T WAIT!!!
