So after almost five years, Shelley Jackson wrote me back (via that email from you, [livejournal.com profile] klingrap). So I am going to get a word, after all.

why didn't you wait and see what word you got? also I thought if you passed once you didn't get to apply again.

Woo Hoo! I got my word tattooed on me almost three years ago. I've sent pictures and gotten a reply of received but am still waiting for my story. My word is "one" and lives in the space between my boobs.

what was your explanation that you sent her for wanting to do it?

it kind of sounds wankery--about hidden intentional community of text. But I do like that aspect of it. So what is this about you visiting in a couple of weeks?

Wow. I mean, it literally has been five years.

Are you so excited? If I were ever going to get a tattoo, I would have done this. Or maybe gotten the Hyundai logo.

it has been! I was trying to do the math, and it all got confused in my head, then I was, like--I started hanging out with you at around the same time I started dating Jay, which would have been spring or summer 2003--so maybe a little less than five years. I AM excited, but it's almost like I have to get re-excited, because I gave up on the possibility of ever hearing back from her a long time ago.

Why the Hyundai logo? I think you should get a gnome tattoo.

Yes, I had Shelley Jackson my first year of grad school, which would have been in the fall of 2003. Or maybe spring of 2004, can't remember. Regardless, that shit was long ago, and Jay was a douche.

I should have prefaced that by saying I would never get a tattoo because I am a wuss who has trouble making decisions. So the Hyundai logo thing is sort of a joke, and sort of a statement against getting meaningful tattoos, because there is nothing more meaningless to me than the Hyundai logo. Not only is it a brand, but it's an auto brand (I don't have a car) and not a very good one at that. It's not cool, potent or a status symbol, and the logo itself is bulky and unattractive. I'd get it because it's the dumbest possible tattoo I could get.

But I'll never get a tattoo.
