okay, the homeland security bill just passed, with all the implications (that the general public as well as the senate members seem to not be aware of) for civil rights, legal process, union rights and lawsuits against harmful vaccines of pharmaceutical companies. dear bill of rights, for whom the bell tolls? it tolls for thee. an oil spill twice the size of the exxon valdez is in progress off the coast of spain (no! portugal! no! spain! no! we are not cleaning it up! well, neither are we! ack, it's all britain's fault anyway!). children in argentina are dying of malnutrition. and yet, THIS is a front-page story on CNN.

BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- Singer Michael Jackson briefly dangled a barefoot baby over the railing of his fourth-floor hotel window on Tuesday, providing a momentary if odd thriller for fans waiting on Berlin's central square below.
The "King of Pop" arrived in the German capital after three days of testimony last week in California in a $21 million lawsuit by a German promoter over cancelled concerts.
A crowd of screaming fans greeted the reclusive entertainer, in town to receive a lifetime achievement award at a ceremony on Thursday night, in front of the Adlon Hotel.
When he got up to his room, Jackson opened his window and held a light-skinned baby, a white towel over the tot's head, briefly over the metal railing. He held the baby with one hand.
Jackson also showed off another child who was about four or five years old. The child, whose face was also covered in white, waved to the crowd below.
A spokeswoman said Jackson was travelling with his children.
Jackson has three children, two by ex-wife Debbie Rowe, five-year-old son Prince Michael and four-year-old daughter Paris. He also has a baby who is less than one year old.
Jackson arrived to the hotel wearing a white surgical mask over his mouth and nose, but later removed it.

I know, I know, I'm drunk as fuck, but I know, i sympathize, and that should be worth something despite the fact that I downed 375 ml of whiskey by myself, at home, uggghhh, it can make me dork but that does not an alcoholic make, am I correct? Anyway, for the sanity boost, I saw that article too, it made me have my own private seizure, if not my own private i da ho (no you da ho, would say wendy's dad) accchhhhh, have you noticed that whiskey is not good for articulating resp0nses to current events??? Plus, I have adifferent keyboard setup on my other computer so it's very very fucking onfusing to change... acchhh, never mind... I should be wandering off to bed by now, in search of REm brains... MY GOD LOOK AT THE TIME!!! ick. Will you write my cover letters for me? Per drunkenness, I tried to convince someone who shall remain unnamed for the moment ot come to my terrible new england enclave for tlc. I wish I could be surprised.
I'm sort of glad you are in fact. Gives me an odd sort of hope. I had long thought of the US newsmedia as basically "Newzack" and more for sedative entertainment than any form of informative let alone critical (god forbid) meduim. As a foreigner here I have changed in the 6 or so months of being in NY from being an outspoken opponent of Bush and the kneejerk kindergartenpolitik post-9/11 to a quiet man who has no opinions in public. Being told you are anti-american and to 'go home' at the merest peep of criticism makes me shy walking home at night past flag-lined houses and on subway trains with the stars and stripes on every carriage...

i'll stop ranting and posting on your journal (I lurk here sometimes, I hope you don't mind.)
