our house got broken into over the weekend. my apartment was not touched, but my friends downstairs had two laptops and a bunch of other crap stolen, including some anthropology articles (why??)
yesterday, ilka went to ask our "culture and the documentary" professor for an extension in light of the extenuating circumstances, i.e. her laptop with all her notes being stolen. he was sympathetic and commiserated with her by sharing a story about his friends whose house was burgralized, and apparently one of the thiefs took a crap inside this person's Habermas book. his coda was "now that's what I call the lumpen proletariat."

question: why are all my professors insane?

it's a pretty funny story though, albeit a weird one for a professor to tell a student in this situation. it also reminded me of my ex-boyfriend's behavior towards my Lacan book (let's just say it was related to the phallus, and it was a misguided attempt at some kind of synchronicity) which i had successfully repressed for the last 4 years.

i think this entry needs to end now.
