hey, aren't you in Cali now? Lots of photogenic spots for adventuring
http://www.uer.ca/locations/newlist.asp?n=1&statfilter=160&country=United%20States&province=California&city=Death%20Valley

unfortunately, that is the limited public directory, and the more interesting stuff generally is members-only, but maybe if the imp of adventure tickles you, you can find some interesting stuff...

I, personally, would love to go here

Mmm. Death Valley. I'm wrapped up in my writing-mode cocoon right now, but I expect to spend the winter here as well. Winter is probably a good time to visit desert ghost towns.

I thought for a long time that poison ivy was just the English word for this weed that grows in Russia and also stings (called krapiva), and it is annoying but tolerable. Then I found out that poison ivy is, in fact, a different plant, and a much more insidious one. I accidentally wandered into, like, a forest of poison ivy at Whalom, and extracted myself from it like one of those robbers in the movies who have to carefully step over motion-triggered criss-crossing alarm lasers.

That second picture particularly is thrilling; it's replaced FDR at Yalta as my desktop for the time being. Lots of excellent shots, though.

I am glad it is more thrilling than FDR at Yalta!

also the Georgia O'Keefe image reminds me of Stephen King's description of Cthulhu as "a gigantic, tentacle-equipped, killer vagina from beyond space and time."

is Stephen King afraid of women? Does he make sure that all the women in his vicinity have a light switch on the OUTISDE so that he doesn't have to turn a corner to turn them on?

are there actually women who don't have lightswitches on the outside?

That's a beautiful space, with all the graff. I added you on flickr but I don't use that much. Up for being LJ friends? :)
