"a clown pretended to be a girl who pretended to be my friend"
is one of the most sinister things I have ever seen!

Clowns are bad enough. Clown tongues...now that just.....WRONG!

the captions to the first three pictures are lines from a Too Much Joy song.

and yes, I thought it was prudent to cut the clown tongue :) lj-prune it, so to speak.

more billowing just for you! also, life is everywhere there, nature reclaiming everything. These places never feel lifeless to me.

no, it's not, and also I never, ever post locations in public posts, and I screen comments that identify places. Sorry, it's totally nothing personal, but there are good reasons for doing that! :)

These are fantastic. Did you have a good time exploring the park?

From: [identity profile] lapsedmodernist.livejournal.com
thank you and YES, it was one of my favorite places that I've ever explored, going just by the fun factor.

I love it. You should sneak into the old Enchanted Forest in Ellicott City MD sometime to see what is left. Little gingerbread men lined up like so many tombstones in the weeds. (A lot of the old attractions have been removed and preserved elsewhere, but much remains, like the fairytale castle and the gingerbread house.) There is now a shopping center in front of the place and the King that used to point the way to the Enchanted Forest entrance is now part of their sign.

As for clowns I was never afraid of them...but that might have something to do with the fact that I grew up in a magician's prop closet. (Clowns were the least of my worries.)

have you ever been to Enchanted Forest? Is it guarded? It sounds like a place I would love to check out.

Enchanted Forest

I was last there in '96...just a few days before it was closed for good.

I don't think it is "guarded" as such, but plenty of other people have managed to get in. (There may be some minor fence crossing.) Really neat juxtaposition though, with all the decay and overgrowth and yet the fairy tale theme...like the end of childhood and/or a time in our history when chldhood was practically worshipped. If you google a combination like +"enchanted forest" +ellicott, there are still maps in existence of where things used to be in relation to each other and possibly other photographers. ;) Neat site.

There is also the family that has been rescuing and restoring many of the features of the old park. I think it is "Clark's Elioak Farm" or something like that. You may be able to get in touch with them and find out what they know before you attempt it. It may well be that most everything has now been removed from the old site, but I still can't see them moving the castle or many of the houses...or the whale for that matter.

I do know from memory that (like other "storybook parks" that popped up all over the country) it predated Disneyland. At a time when even Disney was segregated, the owner of EF insisted that ALL children were welcome to use the same facilities together without rule or restriction. The first amusement park anywhere in the East to do this.

There have been many "plans" and efforts over the years to rescue the old park, but so far nothing. I think that at most, it may have finally been identified as a "historic site" and placed on the register as endangered.

Add another one to the "jesus h those are great pictures" pile.

Bear with me if this is a totally moronic question, but I am completely inept with cameras (on both ends of them)... did you capture the colors like that as is, or do you do some work with them afterwards? Just idle curiosity... my level of respect is the same either way.

From: [identity profile] lapsedmodernist.livejournal.com
Thanks!

I do set the camera to capture the colors (exposure, ISO, etc.), then I edit the photos in Photoshop to balance the colors, bring out the midtones, adjust the highlights, etc.
