Well, Morpheus works in strange ways, and one of those ways is osmosis? Or perhaps H.P. Lovecraft works in strange ways, and one of those ways is Morpheus? Because despite a gaping H.P. Lovecraft-shaped lacuna in my reading habits (shameful, I know), I had a very Lovecraftian dream last night.

I was going to graduate school, somewhere in New York, except little things were wrong, off, not as they should have been. The sunrise and sunset were at strange times, and instead of walls in buildings there were rows of books. At some point I found myself halfway through a semester and realized that I hadn't turned in any assignments for one of my classes (archaeology). I was concerned about it, and went through a pile of photographs to find an apppropriate photograph for my first assignment, but then instead of completing the rest I went to a play with my parents. The play starred Jude Law (who looked different in the dream) and after the play was over I went to hang out with Jude Law and I told him that I felt something was wrong, and this was not the real world. He told me that I was correct and took me to the beach, where the ocean was brown and teeming with all sorts of creatures with teeth, of brown color and tentacles and blending with the water, so that sometimes something would look like a sea crest, but would really be the back of one of these creatures. He battled one of them and threw meat, to feed, to another one. He said that their biggest challenge was creating the illusion that this was still Earth for the people, while keeping the creatures at bay. I asked if Earth the planet still existed. He said it did, pointing vaguely into the sky--but that it was unliveable, that it was now teeming with these creatures from the ocean, that eventually, sooner or later, they always came out of the ocean, and that was always the end.
