What is the proper way to take care of/clean a real partile/mold/asbestos mask, you know, the one with doublt cartridges that looks like Darth Veder x 2. I just got a real one and took it to Asbestostown last Saturday. (Before I had just used disposable particle masks or nothing at all and didn't have to worry about it). I just left it on the back seat of my car after the outing and forgot about it until today. Uh, should I have washed it or something? Should I do tha tnow?

im not too sure about cleaning it but I do know that you need to remove the filters and keep them in a ziplock bag when you arent using it, or if it doesnt have removable filters put the whole thing in a bag and seal it tight. The filters are constantly working even if you arent wearing it so they will get worn out if left out in the open.

i'll second this. if you have a respirator like the ones i'm familiar with, at this point, you take the cartridges out and throw them away. the cartridges each have a certain number of hours worth of air that they'll clean. the timer on this starts when you take them out of the sealed package that they come in. you can prolong the life by putting them in a ziplock bag when you're not using it. the ones i used for my costume crafts class all had #'s of hours used on the bags so that you could keep track and change out the filters when necissary.

You just want to clean it inside and out with wet rags and then toss them out. I believe those cartiage have an 8 hour life span

i hate the constant fight again the asbestos. I dont do all i should, really i should be wearing an outer layer of clothes that i take off and put in a trash bag before i get into my car, and take off my shoes too cuz even if you wear your resp all the time if you get asbestos fibers on your clothes then sit in your car they are now floating around there, or if you go home tired like me and just pile the clothes on the floor the room is now contanimated too. arg

I am asking because I suddently got neurotic about not being super careful and bringing clothes home once or twice :(

Do you think it's a big problem? When I end up at asbestos places I have always worn a mask, but I had clothes/shoes with, presumably, some residue hanging out in the living room for a few days before I was, like, "uh, I should put them outside and then wash them STAT"

I just wonder how bad that was.
