for people who read American Gods: doesn't this look just like Lakeside? One wonders if there are cars on the bottom, marking years like tree rings with their dark secrets...

These are amazing, and look like some sights I just saw tonight driving around with [livejournal.com profile] grrlypainter, [livejournal.com profile] scottytwohottie, and miniScotty. I got into town last night, wouldn't mind coming up in your direction if you are around this week. let me know, maybe we could meet for more than an hour, and not get burgers :)

Call me! You have my #, right?

I am around. What are you doing during the day Wednesday or Thursday? How long are you staying?

polaroid sx-70?

Indeed. I quite liked the chair and also photographed it with my Holga, but that roll isn't developed yet...

The chair is definitely the best. And re: American Gods, you have a warped mind.

you really are such an excellent photographer. your photos always have this multilayered quality to them, of history, aloneness, contemplation.

i hope you know that they are top-notch. they could easily be exhibited, written about, etc. (maybe they already have?)

there's something about the faded tone of these, (and others!), that makes them seem of a different era. the seventies, perhaps. did you ever see the film 'the ice storm'? it was supposed to have taken place in the late seventies and so they shot it with similar muted colours. i found it particularly inspiring, and wrote a song from it. for me, there is this feeling of your photos being Objet-trouve, something almost voyeuristic, as if they were found in an abandoned basement shoebox.

That would be the Time-Zero film. I just try to find scenes that are appropriate to it.

Okay, dude, I officially hate you now. You are really hot and have a pretty face and a nice body and you dress well. Not only that, but you have a PhD from a major research university and teach at some other university and use words like "meta-capitulation" in casual conversation, with a sexy Russian accent that's still completely understandable to dense Americans. You've successfully quit smoking after years and years of puffing away like a chimney. And now... NOW, you are taking high-art quality photographs filled with meaning and subtext and very good use of color and composition as a HOBBY.

Dude, we can't be friends anymore. My resentment at your perfection will grow like a barnacle, and eventually I'll strangle you with a scarf and blame it on Isadora Duncan.

I don't have a Ph.D. yet!

And I don't have a loft in Brooklyn *sob*

And I've never been to Burning Man (although I hope to remedy that this year).

And SHUT UP!

You're going to Burning Man this year? OMG, who are you camping with? Do you know yet? Want me to hook you up with Boston Burners and NYC Burners? Are you going to be in Camp Hot Intellectual Russians or something?

Oh boy, I SO want you to go to Burning Man! You'd fucking love it.

Oh yeah, and you know I actually like you in spite of your perfection. I think your being utterly neurotic over boys saves you from being my next murder victim.

I do plan on going to Burning Man. I know nothing about camps and such but I plan on going with my friend [livejournal.com profile] dreamgoat, who went last year and will probably be going with his housemates (they live in SF). I imagine I would totally fucking love it. I love the theme.

And it's true, I am neurotic about boys, paranoid about the Bush Administration and convinced that The Apocalypse will happen in my lifetime. So I rarely enjoy my perfection.

oh and--you are going to go, right? To Burning Man, I mean.

And while I know a bunch of people who went/go/will go to BM, I don't know that I need to hang out with them as a community in advance...I prefer more organic forms of community integration! But thank you.

This is Cyrillic, but it's not Russian. Since it's going to Uzbekistan, I assume that it's in Uzbek. The only correction I can make is that Toshkent is conventionally spelled with an "a"--Tashkent, a.k.a. Ташкент and it's UzbekistAn, not Uzbekiston. Although in local dialect, I believe it is Ozbekiston.

I am not sure what all the words mean, and I don't know what the format of addresses is for Uzbekistan...Sorry :(

I actually wasn't travelling...I took these pictures near Boston, on the North Shore, where I live.
