For some reason that reminds me of this photo I took a year or so ago.

I can totally see why. That's a great photo! You can tell the water is moving a little bit.

I think what attracts me to both photos is the disruption to the normally ordered appearance of a building -- all of those straight lines are mangled, but even the new version has its own sense of order.

Wow, both of these photos are fantastic.

Where is it? Supposedly it was being washed, but it has been being washed for like a year now. Although it was touched by a lot of crust punks and ravers, it wasn't that dirty!

I heard it was being "fixed" or something...but nothing about it needed fixing! It needs to come back!

Thank you! It seems petty, but the lack actually distresses me.

Yeah, I feel physically ill when I go there now and it's not there. It's been one of my favorite landmarks for about 20 years now. :(

Have you ever listened to Alamo: A Radio Play?

I think you'd enjoy it.

No; I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

I used the cube as a meeting place for the last couple of decades. It was one of the first things I showed my girlfriend when she moved to the city. I also remember, vividly, one time a bunch of young college kids tripping their balls off came up to it cautiously and I (waiting for a friend) explained to them that it could be pushed. I helped them do it, and they started laughing like maniacs with the excitement of actually moving the thing. They were so thankful to me.

my mind keeps flashing "max ernst" and "robert williams". the latter, however, strobes less incandescently, and for a shorter period of time. i'm suffering a petit mal of clumsy associative recollection. can anyone tell me which painting this photo reminds me of? which painters work does this resemble (i have a single painting in mind). i hope the post-coffee me will backdate a memo to the current me.

for a photograph, it's pretty darn good.

honey,
now, if I'm honest,
I still don't know
what love is
. . . .
all my sorrow
all my rage
a tear drop falls
on every page
. . . .
we may race
and we may run
it will not undue
what has been done

We’ll not undo what has been done
Or change the moment when it’s gone

beautiful

Been enjoying your writing for about a year now, through mutual friends incl. missmimesis... just started an lj and wanted to send you a comment asking to be be-friended. I too long for the return of the cube in Astor Place. Encouraged to hear it is scheduled to be returned. I thought they just took it up to make room for that mirrored building. Hope they put it back soon. Take care... msmsgirl.
