Dear livejournal genie,

There is some movie that came out last (not this) summer. I have no idea what it was called except that the title involved numbers. Because sometimes pop culture referents get trasposed in my head like post-its stuck onto the wrong objects, for some time I remembered it as being 2046, which is obviously not the case for many reasons, first and foremost being the fact that it got released last summer. Then I thought it was, like, Ladder 49 or something, which turned out to be some totally other movie. So what the hell was that movie? I remember wanting to see it, because it seemed to be The Sort of Sci-Fi That I Like, but that summer was so crazy I didn't get around to it. All I remember, from the previews, is that it was supposed to be some kind of futuristic dystpoia (?), maybe something with identity-switching, and the one shot I remember from the preview was of some extremely tall thin transparent side of the building or ladder or something... Does anyone know what I am talking about?

[ON EDIT]: it WAS CODE 46. thank you, [livejournal.com profile] atheist_goat and everyone else.

Are you thinking of the theatrical re-release of George Lucas's THX-1138? That was this summer and it got write ups in Entertainment Weekly, etc., and it's really weird and good, though dated. I recommend it.

So many good actors, such a bad movie. Tim Robbins and sci-fi don't mix..

Yep, that's the one. Directed by The Claim's Michael Winterbottom.

Did you see Series 7? It's older than a year but great- I think you'd really like it...Also...have you seen Session 9? It's by the same guy that did Next Stop Wonderland and it creeped me out.

(Look at me, I'm just like a specialised IMDB)

Holy shit I can't believe I just thought it was 2046 after you wrote that it WASN'T. It came out last year, see...only getting press now. Please forgive me. Please.

Yr thinking of Code 46. Should've been fantastic, but just gave up on the compelling sci-fi ambience it was building for the first half and switched into kitschy Hollywood schmaltz mode. Very disappointing.
