For a second I was like, Portland? Then I remembered there's a Portland in Maine.

You have the best taste in clothes. Very few people could pull off red boots, red stockings, red skirt, and red petticoats.

Thank you! I was so confused by your last sentence, though, because I think of the skirt as pink, and the "petticoat" is just a part of the skirt, it's layered with tuille as the top layer...and the stockings are, in fact, leg warmers! There, I just gave away all my fashion secrets.

Portland, Maine rocks. I have never been to Portland, Oregon. You know my feelings on the West Coast in general, but on the other hand many friends that share my sensibilities have endorsed it. I will have to try it some time.

If you *were* in Portland, you would have no excuse not to come to Vancouver. :p

Also, damn, while I'm busy sucking up--you gotta take pictures of me when we finally meet. I'm congenitally unphotogenic, but I have a feeling you could get around that.

you couldn't stop me if you tried :)

also what are you talking about? I have seen some great photos of you. That ice-skating picture, and those photos from Montreal (?)

I think you are one of those people who has the impression of them as unphotogenic, but you are wrong.

I spent my summers growing up in Portland, Maine, living on an island in Casco Bay. I love that city like a crazy aunt. (My grandparents retired to the island and I still visit often.) P-town's certainly come a long way from twenty years ago, when you couldn't walk Commercial Street after dark. (Urban renewal is possible!) Glad you liked it.

Thanks much for your Katrina coverage. I surfed over through my friend judithskiss (http://www.livejournal.com/users/judithskiss/), who got me started on the whole blogging thing some years ago. Incidentally, have you heard from her at all? Last I knew, she was in Asheville, NC, but I seem to remember that she had spent some time in New Orleans and I haven't heard anything from her in months... she's probably just busy living, though.

Cheers,
N

I don't think I actually know your friend [livejournal.com profile] judithskiss...I know some kids from Asheville, but she does not ring a bell. Hope she is ok!
