late-night musings
Feb. 26th, 2002 03:31 amlong time, no post.
busy last week, proposals for summer funding were due friday, with all the usual fun obstacle course props like computers that won't start, printers that won't print, advisors that will not be found when letters of recommendation are due, all climaxing in me carrying the applications over to the building where they are due, walking through washington square park, sitting down on the bench for a cigarette, then the paper clip fell off, the application flew away, and i had to chase it, and go head-to-head with a black squirrel that decided, based on my ardent and manic pursuit of the thick reconmmendation enveloped, that it was something valuable, and lunged for it, right as i screaming a blood-curdling "no!" provoking interested stares from all the people in the dogrun. but i seriously was ready to drop-kick the fucking squirrel.
last week i went to a photography exhibit where one of the features was a machine that could show you how you would look old (any age) nd also how you would look if you were of a different race. the age is done via computer-run iterations or something like that, i am not really sure how the "race" machine works. there was also an option to see yourself with a "disability" which i did not do because at first i found the idea questionable, then i thought it was kind of interesting, because seeing yourself in this abject way in what most people perceive as alien and different and "other" might be not be the worst idea.
there was also a cool computer-blended polaroid of a combination face of world leaders from the early 80s, based on a percentage breakdown of whose country had how much nuclear power--so it was mostly reagan and brezhnev with some thatcher and others thrown in.
next week is going to suck again because i will have a two papers and a presentation. i am excited about break. i'm going to north carolina for a few days to visit andi, then to DC for a couple of days to see angeli, then back to new york to parrot-sit my employer's parrot. i love that parrot. it's so great.
also, i think i am coming to a decision about how to deal with certain people in my life whom i have been excusing till now.
