Jul. 1st, 2005 12:35 pmThank you, Sandra Day O'Connor, for my birthday gift.
I swear, if the apocalypse ever does commence, full-force, it will be on my birthday.
I don't fucking care if you had to legislate from a coffin hooked up to an IV, but since you were one of the five bitches (and I use that as a gender-neutral term, which covers Scalia, Rehnquist, Kennedy and Thomas as well) that enabled the Bush Coup, I fully expected you to keep your ass seated on that bench until 2008 at least (assuming the Diebold Democracy would elect someone marginally less neo-fundie for the next term, in PR interests) in case I want to, you know, have an abortion, or something, in the next four years.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. It was very low-key, which is just how I like'em.

Date: 2005-07-01 06:58 pm (UTC)Literally, two o'clock in the afternoon, I open my eyes, rub out the sand, and pulled my laptop into bed. I open it up, hit reload, and hope for some kind of invigorating e-mail to start the day. No, not quite, I see Sandra Day O'Connor's sad, sad face, and all I could say was, "What's your excuse bitch?" What a shabby bag. What could possibly be her excuse for not outlasting that sickly, shambling hulk Rehnquist?
Hap-hap-happy birthday anyway.

Date: 2005-07-01 08:05 pm (UTC)is it just me, or has there been an increase in the mood for impeachment? i've been seeing more mentions of it in the past few weeks. of course, this would require at least a change in the control of the house of reps. zogby announced poll results recently that showed that 70% of repub voters wouldn't support impeachment even if they were convinced shrub has been lying about the lead up to the assault of iraq (and convincing them is that he lied is nearly impossible). 70%. more proof that this is a political party that has no principles -- anything is acceptable as long as it means they hold power.
can the house of reps. change parties in 2006? so far, nothing has changed to prevent elections from being stolen between 11 PM and 1 AM on election night by a few (white) guys with PCs, if they see results that aren't to their liking. but given the gerrymandering that has taken place over the past ten years (since newtco in 1994), this shouldn't be necessary for them to do. the house elections are pre-stolen.

Date: 2005-07-01 08:11 pm (UTC)The worst thing about the O'Connor thing is that she's one of the swing voters on the court, a so-called "moderate". I think it's unlikely she'll be replaced with anyone to the left of Scalia. And Rehnquist will probably also be replaced with some young Nazi youth wannabe. No two ways about it - this is very bad.

Date: 2005-07-02 12:46 am (UTC)Eventually, a voice from the carrel to my right: "Honey, you don't look so good."
I glanced over and saw a black man, not some crazy white southern redneck. I said, "O'Connor is leaving the Court."
Pause.
"I don't feel so good," said my neighbor.

Date: 2005-07-02 01:34 pm (UTC)Oh and if it makes you feel any better my birthday is November 2nd.
The bad news: Last year my birthday was the Kerry-Bush election. Talk about a party! We got together and watched the election results and went to bed early and depressed.

Date: 2005-07-02 04:40 pm (UTC)Yeah, that would be a bad birthday to have. I knew someone whose birthday was 9/11, that is going to be rough for him for a long while.
