I don't need to leave the house for entertainment

In the boarding house where I stay when I am in Quito I share the second floor with two boys, who are here for a year as English teachers. Separately they are both well-read, interesting guys, I talk politics with one and play chess with the other. Together, however, they morph into Beavis and Butthead.

Inspired by my new favorite website, I bring you

OVERHEARD OUTSIDE MY DOOR

Guy #1: Who is that guy who rolled the boulder up the hill? Syphilis?
Guy #2: Sisyphus.
Guy #1: Haha, Sissy-phus! Get it?? SISSY-PHUS!

Guy #1 probably wouldn't know Syphilis if it hit him on the head on its way back down the hill. Or if he picked it up instead of the boulder.

having never known (or more likely - remembered) sisyphus' name before, altho i've certainly heard of his labors, i find it really odd that within 24hrs of reading your post i saw references to him twice, including a completely random Fotki.com album that popped out for my lazy perusal while i was killing time on the net, and this random photo (http://www.awjweb.com/gallery/Favorites/sisyphus) that happened to be in that album.
