I've been away from the interweb for the last few days, so I missed this. In case you missed it too, I bring you...well, remember, before Jimmy Fallon left SNL he had a brief running sketch called "This is what you did." Okay, Dick Cheney, this is what you did. You wore a snowblower operator outfit to a ceremony commemorating the 60 year anniversary of liberation of Auschwitz

Ladies and gentlemen, the vice-president:

because coming from fucking Wyoming finds people completely unadjusted to snow and cold.

Weltschmertz--Sorrow or sadness over the discrepancy between an ideal version of the world and its actual existing state, a depression over present or future evils and woes of the world in general.

That might be my favourite word ever, and you may become my favourite for being the one to finally bring it to my attention.

I found his comments at the event more insulting than the parka. I'm a notorious under-dresser, and I don't think dudes from wyoming are going to outdress european leaders. His comments, though, total bullshit. More thinly veiled bullshit remarks about how he's the jolly spreader of freedom and liberty, with not even enough tact to talk for more than a moment about the actual suffering involved with that place. It was like, "Everyone who died here had a name. That's why I spread freedom and liberty in the world, and you should back me up on it, yo."

Dick.

Now now, I have to say, of all the wacky antics of our fearless leaders, this is the one I find most endearing, at least relative to all the warfare, repression, torture and so on. And yet... and yet... among the more embarassing.

I mean, he couldn't even get a black snowblower outfit. The man IS the vice president.

his black one doesn't have his name on it, and he's afraid that either 1)he'd forget it, or 2) someone would take it to fuck with him.

You know, as much as I oppose the Bush administration, no one ever gives them the benefit fo a doubt (but then again that's what happens when you lose all credibility...). But you know, maybe his luggage got lost. Maybe his coat got damamged. Maybe he spilled coffee on his jacket and didn't want to look like a (bigger) ass.

In the private sector he was probably the short-sleeved shirt and tie asshole who always upbraided the temps for violating the dresscode.

Y'know, my Dad could really give a shit about looking cool, lives in Florida, yet when we went to Paris this winter he purchased a long leather coat and dark items which had people reacting as if he was a local. And he has like 1/1,000 of Dick Cheney's money. It's not that hard.

Dude's the fucking VP. Class it up.

You know that's exactly what the guy in the beard's thinking.

Now that the story broke, for me, it's more a case of schadenfreude.
