As you may know there is a Nader-initiated recount underway in New Hampshire designed to serve as a litmus test. BlackBoxVoting is organizing challenged in Ohio, Florida and New Mexico. And perhaps most importantly, in Ohio, David Cobb and Michael Badnarik, the 2004 presidential candidates for the Green and Libertarian parties, announced their intentions to file a formal demand for a recount of the presidential ballots cast in Ohio. While they have already collected the required $113,600 to pay for recount, but they are aiming to reach $150,000 by 5 PM today for witnesses, volunteers, logistical support, etc. I just donated and urge everyone else to donate as well, as these people are in a legal position to demand the recount as candiates on the ballot. Alternately, you can also donate to BBV (blackboxvoting.org) or http://www.helpamericarecount.org/ for non-Ohio-specific recounting efforts. If you are donating NOTE that this is for the recount and not for campaign funds in general.

Don't forget that Blackwell did an illegal post hoc switcheroo on provisional ballot rules in Ohio a few days ago.

They raised the money and the Ohio recount is on (http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/111604W.shtml).

I know, but now they are trying to raise money for logistical support of the happening' recount. Look at the thermometer on the website and the explanation.

How the hell can there possibly be a recount in Florida? And even if it is possible, how can the results be trusted any more than the initial count?

BlackBoxVoting is organizing challenged in Ohio, Florida and New Mexico.

Are they experiencing conflicts with organization (organizing-challenged), or are they organizing challenges?

But, anyway, thank you for keeping us all up to date!

i wish there was some site that provided information about coordination. i donated money to bbv.org for the vote-fraud investigations and to the alliance for democracy when i heard that they were going to file for a recount in ohio. it would be nice to know that the various groups that are involved in the recounts are working together.

They are working together to an extent. It's not completely decentralized.

that's good to know. i'm just concerned that they don't raise enough money because it's splintered among too many groups.

splintered fund raising or not, it is good news that the recount is going to happen. the WORST that comes out of it is a precedent. it seems too likely to me that the 2002 senatorial race in georgia was stolen from max cleland, and nothing was said about it (lots of discussion about the repub tactics, but nothing about the fact that cleland was many points (3 to 5) ahead in polling, and lost -- diebold electronic vote counting).

actually, Cleland was ahead by 11 points in exit polling...making the theft of the election all the more apparent...and the lack of a response to that theft even more appalling.

David Cobb was on my friend's radio show last evening...and at least according to him, as far as Ohio is concerned, he & Badnarik are the ONLY ones people should be donating money to, because they're the only two people who have standing to file for recounts. (technically, Kerry has standing as well, but so far it looks as if he's standing this one out).

giving money to BBV is a good cause, generally speaking...but i'm not sure how much, if any, effect it will have on the specific recount in Ohio.

thanks for the information about the recount. i'll wait until later in the week before making a donation for the actual count (as opposed to the fees to start a count) -- i'd like for settling to take place. maybe DU or the cobb web site could make some announcement.

and i agree (of course) about BBV.org -- even after the recount (or not, in some states) is completed, a campaign needs to continue to get transparent, auditable (and routinely audited) elections. it's fundamental to running the country.
