Fionn: cake!
me: cake?
Fionn: want cake!
me: we don't have cake!
Fionn: we have cake.
me: no, we don't have cake.
Fionn. we HAVE cake.
me: no, we don't. we don't have cake.
Fionn: we have it, we have cake.
me: no, we don't have cake at home.
Fionn (thinks for a moment): get some at the store!
me: you know what, maybe I will bake a cake later today.
Fionn: and put it on a plate!
me: yes, then we can put it on the plate.
Fionn: NOT IN THE BOWL! (dissolves in maniacal giggles).

me: Given that Western nations systematically dump nuclear waste off the coast of Somalia, AND overfish further up the coastline, stealing their fish, I'd say piracy is a totally reasonable response.

theophile: You know, Somalia is totally The Giving Tree of international relations: "I have no more fish to give you...but you can dump nuclear waste unto me." And the man did. And, for a time, he was happy.

(Explanatory note: there is a large clearing that is immediately outside our back yard gate, that is, essentially, enclosed by the rows of houses and the pathways running along them, so it's like a common space for the houses in the vicinity, and kids usually play there when the weather is nice; that's where they are hanging out.
