i have been in ecuador for the last month and a half, in a little community called venecia on the bank of napo river, learning quichua and getting eaten alive by bugs. my legs look oh-so-lovely. hope my roommates don't faint when they see them.
so much to say, so little time to do it. it's been exhausting and challenging and wonderful. now i can speak minimal quichua, which is a hard language, but at least it's agglutative (?) and therefore logical, as in you just add on a string of suffixes ad nauseum ad infinatum. i also got some really good interviews about the local lore and about arranged marriages. i think i found a good site for fieldwork, to be conducted at a greater length in the future.
