The night before leaving NYC, pnts and I are bonding with Sponge Bob Squarepants

Pnts, Laughlin and Michelle on the ferry

Bj's interlude with Shamu the Killer Whale

My first Bojangles

What's an island without a lighthouse?

We went boating in the marshes

Well, some of us went boating. Others, like Michelle, went kayaking.

Michelle also plays the jaw harp, it tickles.

Ocean swimming at twilight. Thankfully no one took nighttime skinnydipping pictures, I already have naked photographs of me floating around the web from my Nashawena vacation last year.

The pearly sky

Morning. Pnts and I are kind of hungover.

Boys played with phallic rockets, as they are wont to do
Rob apparently handled it better than Laughlin

just..yes

upon our return to Chapel Hill pnts dug out her helmet and we acted out dramatic nonsequitors with cutlery

There are many murals in North Carolina. Many, many murals.

Some were...problematic

In Winston-Salem we stayed in this awesome collective art/work/house space called The Werehouse.
Some of the decor:

Of course, across the railroad tracks it faces the downtown jail

And some RJ Reynolds facilities

But we cooked some sushi

and hung out on the rooftop

In the evening we went to a voting registration block party to flyer for our screening. People signed pledges to vote:

It was lots of fun!
Which tattoo? I have an illustration from my father's book (a blueprint of a moon and a ladder) on my shoulder and an Ohm on my forearm, and pnts's alchemy symbol for "purity" is visible on her hand.

it's a highly allegorical novel in verse about a sea creature that possesses a power of total mimicry that crawls out of the ocean because it cannot bear to be alone and assumes a human identity; however, it does not know how to relate and possess empathy, so at the end, having more or less failed at being human becaue it was not ready, it transforms itself into a bird in order to understand how to care for others in a simpler context than messy human relationships. The book in translation would be called "Decals" and the decals themselves are the pictures left behind by a vanished man whose identity the creature originally assumes. There are two sets of decals, at the beginning and the end of a book, some of them stay the same, some of them change by the end; the tattoo is one of the decals.

No, it's just in Russian. My parents live in Chicago. My dad teaches fiction writing and Russian/Soviet/European literature at an art school there.

The girl in the second pic with the Queens t-shirt on and the Crocodile Dundee hat-Michelle-looks like a girl i once attempted to seduce unsuccessfully, the tattoo on your shoulder brought back memories of the time you wrote me about the crazy story your father once wrote, and 'cooking sushi' made me laugh. Also, you're leaving the country wha? Have a good trip, where are you going, why, and will you still be journaling?

you? unsuccesful in a seduction? I am shocked! I guess I imagine your life to be like "The Seducer's Diary." yes, yes, cooking sushi, you know you actually have to cook rice. I am going to Ecuador to do fieldwork for dissertation research, you knew that! Yes, I will continue posting, although probably not quite as frequently. And after I get my degree and go on the job market we are getting married so that I can teach at McGill. oui?

re: seduction, i embelish. not the outcome, just the proccess. i have less to do with it than i'd like to think...people are not putty after all.

I DID know you were going to Qido...apologies. As to this marriage of convenience (yours)...you do realize that if it were to ever come to fruition, i'd probably end up falling for you in the most inconveniently real way, and where would that leave me? Of course i can always ask, what's in it for me?

I am quite serious about the marriage, or at least I may be if Nov. 3rd is a Bad Day, as opposed to a Good Day.
what's in it for me
why, the many pleasures of my company, of course. I would have to live in Canada to get the damn papers, after all.
And I'm sure I could keep you...entertained.

why don't you come up for a visit first. i don't like discussing defrauding the Canadian Ministry of the Interior and the Immigration and Naturalization ministry unless it's in person over Sangria in Little Portugal. I'm a good host, so i'm told.

mmmm Sangria. Montreal was my first glimpse of "the West" when I was 10, so of course it's a shining phantasmogoria in my mind. I would very much love to go visit, but I never have an excuse to since your stupid city doesn't ever seem to have conferences that I would attend. However, I am an old-fashioned girl and understand the importance of meeting one's future spouse. Actually, if I were a *really* old-fashioned girl, we'd get married sight unseen right after I arrived on the boat from the Old World to the colonies, and I'd have 8 flimsy pettycoats. But yes, if Nov. 3rd is the day of the Rise of the Diebold Machines, I plan on taking a detour to Canada on my way back from Ecuador to suss out living possibilities, in which case I will expect you to ply me with sangria until I drink you under the table.

I want to go canoeing or kayaking somewhere southern and coastal. I was fantasizing about Texas' intracoastal waterway yesterday.

never been to Texas (excepting Fort Worth on a layover) but lazy Southern internal waterways sound nice...are they like in Louisiana/NC with swamps and marshes and such?

Parts of the state are gorgeous. And the ICW is lovely, lazy, and Southern, with some marshes, and lots of golden sand beaches.

That blue dress in the pic in front of the parrot mural is fabulous, by the way.

hahahaha, wow, it's amazing. No, we are not sisters, but I swear you are like the millionth person to say this. Even her mom thinks so. This time around when she was in New York, one night three people thought we were sisters in the space of an hour, so finally when the last person asked if we were, I said yes and invented a whole family history, just for fun. The weird thing is, I don't think we actualy look alike, she has very pale skin, classical features and light blue eyes, and I have olive skin, a dark complexion and more Mediterranian facial features, but I guess as her mom said "the sum produces a different result than the individual parts." I dunno, do you think we actually look alike or just seem like we could be related?

I have been staring at your icon for several minutes now trying to figure out what the hell it is, and my brain has plateaued on the trifecta of "medieval" "microphone?" and "tessaract insect." help!

oo. those are all better than what it really is -- a "wire loom", apparently. A device for manipulating wire. I think it's odd and interesting, and I came across it the first day I was blogging and it's been my default ever since.

But I like "tesseract insect" better. Maybe I'll start telling people that's what it is. Or maybe "medieval microphone tesseract insect."

What does a "wire loom" mean to you if anything?

Re: missing: words, last known location: mouth

From: [identity profile] trochee.livejournal.com
Not much. I assume it's a tool for making wires cross over and under each other in ways that would be difficult to do with bare fingers, much as a thread loom is for thread.

But I don't know. I think I was googling for pictures of mechanical looms when I found it.

haha. no. I am only friends with attractive people. It's a matter of principle. (not really, obviously, but now that I think about it, all of my friends are, in fact, quite attractive, "objectively" speaking. go figure.)
