Okay, I know there's gotta be some website that helps you create a travel route. Like, what's the fastest way to get between two points on the globe when there are no flights (even with connections) between the two places listed on websites like expedia and travelocity. I'm looking for something like mapquest driving instructions, only with an international scope and in terms of airplane routes.

Thanks.

I believe mapquest has some kind of plan a roadtrip function.

Yeah, but I need the equivalent of that, but cross-continentally and with plane connections, rather than "merge onto New Jersy Turnpike, go West for 20 miles" it would be more like "fly to Luxembourg, book a flight to Shanhai, get a conencting flight to Lhasa."

I'm almost done with your interview questions--they are so much fun to answer!

It would help to know both your intended destination, and your point of origin. You may have to compile your own trip (and connections) using a variation of international sites.

I'm good with finding cheap tickets in a pinch, (read: next day transatlantic travel) but it sounds like you're talking about crazy exotic shit!

Well, like today I tried to figure out what routes there were to get from Buenos Aires to Lhasa, but the websites were no help.

Funny, my best friend in high school grew up in Buenos Aries. Because of her regular trips back, I've developed a very interesting mental database of 'cities that connect to cities that connect to Buenos Aries.'

For example. It was often cheaper to fly from (our town of) Grand Rapids, to Chicago, to Miami, to Nicaragua, to Spain, to Laos, to Buenos Aries. Or something like that.

"Lhasa is linked with Beijing, Chonqing, Chengdu, Xi'an and Kathmandu by airlines. The Xining Lhasa and Chengdu-Lhasa highways also provide major accesses to Lhasa."

Beijing airport code = PEK
Buenos Aries has three airports, none of which I know anything about. From AEP, however, I was able to find a return flight to Beijing.

Be ASSERTIVE with your Google searches!

Yes, I know what routes there are into Lhasa. I am, as you put it, AGGRESSIVE with my google searches. That does not really help in this instance, and I want the *shortest* route rather than the *cheapest* route, or at least a route that goes through places where I'd like to stop on the way. I am terrified of flying and don't really want a flight with 8 legs. I want choices, options, VARIABLES!

lol, figured it wouldn't help. Btw, sorry about the images...geocities shut down my service for some reason.

Anyway, I hope you find what your looking for.

Oh, it's fine about the images, I uploaded them to my photo album on photobucket and linked them from there, so you can still see the Venn diagram. I always link images that way, b/c you never know when thing will go wonky with random websites.

And I think [livejournal.com profile] seltix found the website I need. :)

Sweets, help me out-- how do you get really cheap next-day transatlantic flights? I want in...

you might want to try aaa.com or maporama.com

i honestly don't know if either will have what you're looking for, but they are alternatives to mapblast and mapquest.

Weird, everyone misunderstood my entry. I don't need driving instructions...I need to figure out how to get from one country to another when there are no routes listed on websites. Like, to get from South America to China. There are no flights listed on travel webpages for such a route, even with connections, because I guess no one carrier makes that trip and the routes are listed by carrier, but obviously it's possible to get there by air, it would probably just have to be a couple of separate legs of the journey, each with its own connections, on different airlines, and I want to figure out the most efficient way of doing that...Do you know of any websites for that?? :D

no no. i understood the problem. i though those sites might have some kind of travel agent service. maybe try airtreks.com. again, i don't know if it has what you need. i'll keep looking.

I would suggest trying to find a travel agent in Buenos Aires who could figure out a package for you, maybe someone specializing in exotic locales.

I've tried to find a similar site before, but no luck. There is no central database for these things... American consolidation sites (such as orbitz) can only access American airline databases and their partners abroad.

I've travelled a lot, and believe that specialized travel agents are the best bet.

Well, that's the whole conundrum, I wouldn't be planning on finding a route from BA if I knew it was cheaper and more efficient to do it from somewhere else. I just want to plug in two points and see which carriers fly between them. *pouts*
How' s the other side of the world treating you?
If you run into my friend Anya somewhere in a Tibetan monastery there, give her a holla.

Uhh... sure, Anya. Mongolia is cool in the evenings, hot in the high noon. And stop pouting, it's undignified and communistic.

when are you going to B.A.?
ther eis a tavel agent in the city which does alot of tix for Argentina. I've bought tix from them 2x.. It is called ANA travel and is in the 30's.
I'm sure they are listed.
I think expedia has a multiple destination feature. You might want to check on the website for Aerolinas Argentina or Lan Chile.
Lan Chile's planes are a little nicer.

From: [identity profile] lapsedmodernist.livejournal.com
I don't know, probably next summer. Thanks, I actually know about Aerolinas Argentina and I've flown Lan Chile before but I will have the same problem with their website... Obviously Lan Chile does not fly to Lhasa and I want something that will designate the nodes on the map that are international airplane hubs out of which I can construct the easiest and fastest route from one side of the world to the other. I will make a note of that travel agent you mention.
