After 9/11, the collective (un)conscious, whose metaphores and possible referents were preemted and monopolized by Steven Segal movies processed and verbalized the attack as "it was just like a movie."
Well, now the war in Iraq has become a fucking snuff film. Maybe this will make a difference in the public opinion? After all, in Steven Segal properly Proppian narrative, the ones assaulted by Evil are complimented by the rules of the narratives as being the correct side of the binary. But everyone pledging to the culture of kitsch, by rules of their narrative, can't publically get down with snuff flicks. Right? Right? Where is the moral outrage? The moral outrage is necessary to keep perversity perverse. So let's put the moral outrage to an inadvertently good service. Navibus et quadrigis--but somebody, something put an end to this latest nadir in the history of occupations.

Date: 2004-05-05 09:26 pm (UTC)They really made me sick to my stomach. I was about to go to sleep but now I need to see something else before I do so.
I don't want those images in my head as I fall asleep.
BUT I'm glad you shared the link. You are right people need to see this and be enraged. They should also be enraged that the people in these pictures were "just following orders". Do people lose their moral selves when they go into the military? AND even though they acted like mindless sheep when they did these things, they shouldn't be the only ones punished.
The repercussions should reach higher up in the military food chain. Like the U.S. Commander in chief!
Mel Gibson should direct this one.
