lapsedmodernist | I'm an incompetent starfucker

So last night I edited for ever and ever, and finally at around 9 headed over to Ed's Greenpoint abode for game night. People were coming in, going out, food came, there was so much commotion that I stopped paying attention to the door, and was concentrating very hard on trying to open a bottle of wine with an itsy-bitsy corkscrew. There was a knock on the door again, Ed went to answer, and there were two people in the doorway. One of them, the girl, was Ed's upstairs neighbour, the other was some guy who looked vaguely familiar. They stepped into the apartment but stayed near the doorway, saying they were on their way out and just stopped by to say hi. Ed invited them to stay, and they said they might come back for a drink later. Some people who were already in the room knew them, no real introductions were made, just a lot of "hellos" and waves. Two minutes later they left, and I mentioned that the guy looked familiar, trying to figure out if I had met him at some Ed-related party before. Ed says that no, that was that actor. What actor? Ed's boyfriend says "you know the one from Y Tu Mama Tambien, Gael Garcia Bernal." I completely freak out because Gael Garcia Bernal is one of the few actors that I would actually want to meet, and I can't believe that I was just in a room with him and did not really meet him. GG makes things wose by saying "oh, you should have come to ____'s party on Saturday, he was there" (some random party I was too exhausted to find out the where & whens of). I freak out even more. GG asks what the big deal is and says "he is so short." I say that I don't care, I think he is an amazing actor, and he was one of the two and a half people who actually had the guts to say something against the war at last year's Oscars, and I respect him immensely for that. GG consolingly says "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll meet him again, he hangs out with Ed's upstairs neighbour a lot."
