Dear Unconscious
In the future, I would appreciate it if you refrained from being quite so literal in your mining of cultural metaphores and colloquialisms while producing my dreams. We are not playing charades. I'd better not find myself in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with "Jaws" extras the next time I am feeling professionally frustrated. If you must, please limit yourself to dreams involving theory and epistemology, but tread carefully in that area, and use your best judgement (i.e. a dream where I tell someone to be Althusserian about something normative is OK, constructing a hallucination by which I am not allowed to sleep until I explain the meaning of life via Escher's paintings of ladders is NOT.) Also, despite the fact that I think that there is a sublimated layer of male homoeroticism that is endemic to our entire culture, and that is something I think about a fair amount, I still feel that visual semiotics of my dreams borrow too much & too frequently from the Ancient Greek aesthetic.
Please be so kind as to take these under consideration.
Sincerely,
The Conscious Self
