This one, for example, defies my capacity for theory of mind.

Inexpensive room share offered by working male for short/long term. Room is small, but private. Other than bedding, apartment is furnished. Location near East Village. Must be neat, abstain from drugs and smoking, no overnite guests or pets allowed, must be willing to do fair share in keeping place neat and tidy. Being open to shaving your head would be a plus.

i saw this article titled "how to avoid being a victim in a roommate horror story" and thought that you might be interested in reading it.

"In addition to shared financial responsibility, roommates must deal with one another as people, habits and all. While not necessarily items to put into writing unless a renter wants to highlight certain issues, the following are worthy of discussion before signing a lease with another person:"

it then lists some points that you might want to bring up as you interview possible roommates.

Funny, [livejournal.com profile] jasminedreame and I were just trading roommate horror stories last night.

I don't know who is luckier, me and my old roomie because our new roommate (who we met on Craigslist) is lovely and un-psycho, or the new roomie because WE are unpsycho. I'd be inclined to say that she is luckier, because if she turned out to be psycho we could always just kick her out, whereas she is brand new to the city and would have a tough time finding a comparably-priced place to live on short notice if it turned out we liked to host black masses in our living room or something.

Craig's List ads are fuct. (Charlie thinks)

I remember when I was looking for a place, and came across some lesbian 'riot grrrl' who sounded pretty cool, had good interests, and went on for about 4 paragraphs before coming to the point "One thing. I weigh over 450 pounds and am living on public assistance, and may need your assistance getting around".
I couldn't even begin to imagine.
