pre-coffee thoughts
Apr. 19th, 2003 06:48 amtoday we are starting to show the room for rent in the apartment.
nuncstans got married yesterday. The theme of the day was "retro." It just was. There are polaroids to prove it. Insanity at the municipal building. the night before i had a dream where i told her to just be Althusserian about it all. I think no one realized there was actually going to be a chapel and they would actually have to say state-written vows. It was extremely low-key, only 8 of us, afterwards we went out for drinks and appetizers at some random bar in brooklyn heights, then went back to our house where there was food, alcohol, and um... other things. In tradition of articulating Children of Mark holidays on the day that they transpire, yesterday was designated MarkMitzvah day. The rest of the evening was a bricolage of watching The Underground, the PNAC conference, and playing that game where eveyrone has a sticker with a name on their head and they can't see it, made for them by the person to their left, but everyone can see everyone's except their own, and people go in circle, asking yes or no questions to try and figure out who they are. Hm, I just realized that it's really annoying when you don't know the name of the game and thus have to explain the whole thing, not out of any desire to explain it, but just because there is no way to denote it. I was Donald Rumsfield (thanks, Nuncstans!)--I asked if I was in the news, if I was involved in PNAC, and if I wrote poetry and when the answer to all of the above was yes, there was no doubt left as to my identity.
Anyway, like I said, today we are starting to show the room. I think when Nuncstans moves out, I will move into her room and rent out mine. My current room is really big, but I just don't find it cozy. I'd much rather have a smaller (and cheaper!) room which is more aesthetically appealing to me. I am going to paint it green, whereas I would never get the energy and the motivation to paint the big room with all the furniture there if it was staying in place. Also the small room is more private in the semi-railroad layout of our apartment; my current room is between two other rooms, whereas the my-soon-to-be room is connected to only
one. I will have to move one of my bookshelves into our "library" alcove off the living room, but I am kind of really liking the whole communal library thing, it's very "old-time"...
