yet another insane weekend.
seriously, why is my life so insane? this weird shit does not happen to other people. the evening started with drinking bloody marys at the odessa while an old guy at the table behind us pulled out a huge KNIFE and started scratching the table with it, almost like whittling, all the while whistling. he terrified the waiter. then the evening went downhill from there.
the bartender at the bar we were at after hours got his elbow dislocated in the arm-wrestling (yeah, great idea, on a wet bar) match started by the retarded boys, and had to go to the hospital. the only two songs that the juke box kept playing all night was "we built this city on rock-n-roll" and "jesse's girl" which is a whole other story. then there was a story about a big fish that went nowhere.
quote number one of the weekend: (thankfully, not uttered by anyone close to me):
"i was going to go to the WEF protest, but i was too fucked up on heroin."
quote number two of the weekend:
"i wanted to kiss you since before the bartender's elbow got broken"
my friends are great, but their friends are less so.

friends

a commedian recently made the observation that the older you get, the fewer friends you have. he said that by the time you're 30 years old if someone says they have (even as many as) 10 friends then you know most of them are coworkers. is this the reality? i don't know. how do you gather statistics on something like this? (despite all of the denigration of statistics, i believe they are still the most reliable method of measuring and determining -- more so than anecdotes that too many people prefer.) but it got a big laugh, so at least that audience thought there was some truth in the observation.

if it's true, then what does it mean? that you'll likely start sloughing off friends over time, especially after school ends and people start pairing off. and if that's true, then what should you make of the time you have now?
