question about buying a bike in NYC

My friend wants to buy a bike in NYC for under $200. What are good places to do that? I only had one bike when I lived there, my baby blue Schwinn, and I bought it from that place right next to the BQE on Lorimer. But I imagine quite a few of you know more options than that. I am thinking in particular of never_the_less, labrujah, capricornia--any suggestions would be awesome!
