Things learned while reading out loud the book about Russian moonshine that Fionn pulled down from the bookshelf and was ecstatic about [ripping apart]:

1. Catherine the Great was fond of sending presents of Russian moonshine to her friends abroad--Immanuel Kant, Johann Wolfgang van Goethe, and Carl Linnaeus

2. Carl Linnaeus wrote a tract about Russian moonshine entitled something like "Vodka: in the hands of healers, intellectuals and lumpen proletariat: a most curious study for all sorts of purposes"--this is not verbatim, as the book vanished after Fionn got his little hands on it, and possibly ate it all, but it's pretty darn close--it really has that three-tiered structure about the different users, and the meta-title after the semicolon.

also these are drawings of my self and Fionn made by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] missmimesis!

ETA: also, after the gross Christmas-ish weather in Boston, accompanied by that un-gemutlich dreary feeling when seasons seem misaligned, it feels like Really Winter.
