This week I saw snow fall in abundance. And also a John Ashcroft snowglobe. Eeeep. [livejournal.com profile] nuncstans saw it too.
I walked around the Union Square Christmas Market after class today. I can't even talk about the class. That's upcoming on a friends-only entry. So I slowly cajoled my soul out of its roadkill state through a therapeutic immersion into the holiday-time consumer zeitgeist at Union Square. I am like a bird when it comes to sparkly, shiny things, filled with unabashed, caution-free delight. As a result I am $40 poorer, but that's okay, because after the day I had today I totally deserved the new necklace that looks kind of like a Judy Seidel canvas.
I am also in the throes of holiday gift-buying angst. On TV they always have silly little misunderstandings and mishaps when it comes to holiday gits. It's like elements of Shakespearean comedies, only with objects. While J. and I lolled around in front of the TV on Sunday, the Christmas episode of 7th Heaven came on, and we watched Lucy's boyfriend, an overgrown, presumably pedophiliac ogre with big lips, present his girlfriend, who is supposed to be 15, but looks like an 11-year old fetus, with a shoe-shine kit, after which J. asked me what I wanted for Hanukkah.

So, everyone: what's the best holiday present you have ever received? And what's the worst?

*random addendum: while I was typing this entry, J. called and in the course of the conversation informed me that, apparenly, the Lorimer stop on the L has a jail underneath it, just like Union Square. How many fucking subway stops in this city have detention facilities under them? And also, apparently, if you've lived in New York for over 6 months and do not have a New York State ID, you automatically get detained instead of, like, getting a ticket for misdemeanors? This useful information was discovered when two of his friends jumped a turnstyle. I wonder if Homeland Security has a division for hipsters. Imagine the filing cabinet: Hackers, Hamas, Hezbollah, Hipsters, Husein, etc.
