hm, so we had a debriefing by the director of grad studies and the chair of the department where they outlined all the buorocratic procedures and protocol and told us about expectations for grad students and how we should feel free to come to them if we are ever in trouble and that they can help with paper extensions, red tape, financial difficulties or getting us out of jail, though we should try not to do that.
and that if we want to know about the departmental encounters with FBI agents we should ask at the wine and cheese reception.

and the moral of the story is:
If you don't fail now and again,
it's a sign you're playing it safe
