all of a sudden there is an uncomfortable feeling in the air, much like there was in israel when i was there when the peace treaty ended. military helicopters glore, news footage of police using machetes against demonstrators, a policeman being set on fire. xela is pretty peaceful, but i guess 8 people died in guatemala city yesterday. my teacher was saying (not the first either) that there are more and more rumors of coup d'estat because the new miliarty is consolidating tanks to get the old military out of the government. lovely, because it's always the civilians who get fucked.
